Foreword I first met Pastor Osita Eze in a rather unusual context—an overcrowded room of about twelve young men in Angola Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, in what was my first year on campus. He was a senior colleague, yet he lived among us freshers, and even in that setting, he stood out—not by flamboyance, not by force, but by a quiet, compelling godliness. While many of us were still figuring out who we were and what we believed, Osita was already walking with God with conviction. His humility, his Christlikeness, and his evident burden for young people were unmistakable—even then. Twenty years later, none of that has changed. If anything, those seeds have matured into fruit. This book you hold in your hands, Flee Youthful Lusts, is a testament to that fruit. As someone who has spent the last decade mentoring young adults through the Alive Mentorship Group (AMG)—and written hundreds of thousands of words addressing the spiritual and emotional challenges they face—I can tell you this with certainty: there has never been a more urgent time for a book like this.

We live in a generation overwhelmed by choices and starved of direction. Lust—whether sexual, emotional, material, or ideological—has found new and aggressive expressions in our digital age. And sadly, many young people, even in the Church, are unequipped to withstand the pressure. Osita Eze understands this problem intimately—not just as a pastor or youth leader, but as someone who has walked the path, seen the dangers, and now offers a lifeline. This is not just another book on purity. It is a clarion call to flee destruction and pursue destiny. Osita's approach is deeply scriptural, refreshingly practical, and profoundly pastoral. He exposes the lies of lust without condemnation. He offers hope without sugar-coating the cost. He speaks truth with the tenderness of a mentor and the authority of one who has wrestled with these matters in real life. In these pages, you’ll find more than warnings. You’ll find wisdom. You’ll find Joseph fleeing Potiphar’s wife—and discover that it’s okay to lose your coat if it means keeping your calling. You’ll find modern traps unmasked—pornography, peer pressure, platform addiction—and godly alternatives proposed.

You’ll find a vision of holiness not as a rigid rulebook, but as a joyful pursuit of something greater: a pure heart, a sound mind, and a life anchored in purpose. But perhaps most importantly, you’ll find yourself being drawn—not just to flee what is deadly but to chase what is divine. I am grateful for Osita’s obedience in writing this book. I am grateful that the flame of passion for youth that I saw in a crowded university room two decades ago has not only endured but has now ignited a fire in many others. So whether you are a teenager navigating hormones and social media, a young adult trying to remain pure in a polluted world, or a mentor looking for tools to guide the next generation, Flee Youthful Lusts is for you. Read it slowly. Reflect deeply. And more than anything, respond fully. Your destiny depends on it.

Preface Youth is one of the most powerful and defining seasons of life. It is a period filled with dreams, ambitions, energy, and possibilities. During this stage, many individuals begin to discover their gifts, shape their character, and lay the foundations upon which their future will be built. However, youth is also a season of intense temptation. Many young people face pressures and desires that can easily derail their destiny if they are not properly guided. The choices made during these formative years often determine the direction of an entire lifetime. One of the greatest dangers confronting young people is the challenge described in the Bible as “youthful lusts.” The instruction given in Second Epistle to Timothy 2:22 is simple yet profound: “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” The word flee suggests urgency. It means to run away quickly from something dangerous. The instruction recognises that certain temptations are not meant to be negotiated with or entertained; they must be avoided completely.

This book was written to address the traps that frequently destroy the potential of young people. These traps appear attractive on the surface, yet they carry consequences that can affect destiny, relationships, and spiritual growth. The purpose of this book is not to condemn or judge young people, but to guide them. Every generation faces its own struggles, but with wisdom, discipline, and spiritual understanding, those struggles can be overcome. Within these pages, we will explore the nature of youthful lusts, the dangers they present, the examples provided in Scripture, and the practical steps that young people can take to escape these traps and pursue lives of purpose and honour. It is my hope that this book will serve as a compass— helping young people navigate one of the most challenging seasons of life and emerge victorious.

Introduction Why Many Destinies Are Lost in Youth Every human life carries within it the seed of destiny. No one is born empty. Every individual comes into the world with abilities, opportunities, and possibilities that can shape not only their own future but also the lives of others. Yet history and experience reveal a troubling pattern: many destinies that begin with great promise end in disappointment, regret, or obscurity. More often than not, the turning point occurs during the years of youth. Youth is a season of discovery. It is the stage of life when a person begins to explore the world, form convictions, make independent choices, and pursue dreams. It is also the period when the foundation of character is laid. The habits formed during youth often become the patterns that define adulthood. When a young person cultivates discipline, integrity, and purpose, the future is strengthened. When a young person embraces destructive habits, the future is placed in danger. Many destinies are not destroyed suddenly. They are gradually weakened through a series of small decisions that appear harmless at the beginning. A

wrong friendship here, a secret habit there, a compromise in values, an uncontrolled desire—these things may seem insignificant in the moment. Yet over time they accumulate and begin to redirect the course of a person’s life. One of the most powerful forces that influence the behaviour of young people is desire. Desires themselves are not necessarily evil. In fact, desire can motivate achievement, creativity, and growth. However, when desire is uncontrolled or directed toward destructive pursuits, it becomes dangerous. The Bible describes certain impulses common to youth as “youthful lusts,” and it offers a strong instruction in Second Epistle to Timothy 2:22: “Flee…
