The Encyclopedia of Muslim Scholars, Volume I, gathers one hundred
figures across ten thematic sections: the foundational generation of
Companions and early Tābiʿūn; the founders of the legal schools
(madhhabs); the great critics of hadith transmission; the masters of
Qur'anic exegesis; the compilers of the six canonical hadith collections;
the architects of Sunni theology; the philosophers and logicians; the
spiritual masters of taṣawwuf; the scientists and physicians; and the
historians, sociologists, and reformers who carried the tradition into the
modern age.
Each entry follows the same structure — name, dates, region, and field of
specialization, followed by a concise account of the scholar's life and
contribution in Arabic, English, and Hausa. Where a scholar's work spans
more than one section, a brief cross-reference points the reader back to
the full entry rather than repeating it, keeping the volume both complete
and uncluttered.
